Your stay begins at the Manoir Chamberland in Montebello. The historic presbytery has been transformed into a luxury inn. You'll fall under its spell as soon as you arrive. After a good, long night's sleep, you'll have the chance to fill your stomach directly on site, where a hearty breakfast will be prepared for you.
But I forgot the first step. Before setting foot in the Manoir, I strongly recommend that you stop off at Chocomotive to pick up some appetizing snacks for the evening. What could be better than chocolate made right before your eyes? Many other local products are available at this unique Outaouais economuseum located in the old Montebello train station. You won't be able to resist the log architecture. You'll also find beers from Brasseurs de Montebello. You'll be amazed by the selection offered by this local microbrewery.
A stop at the Fromagerie Montebello is also a must. You'll discover cheeses that have won several awards in recent years. Personally, the Rebelllion 1837 is a favorite. It's up to you to discover your own!
And while you're there, why not pick up a few victuals and pack yourself a picnic lunch, which you can enjoy at noon the following day directly at Chutes de Plaisance. You can then take your time admiring the 63-metre falls.
In the evening, for a romantic dinner, I suggest two options: Le Napoléon in Montebello or Le Vieux Chaudon in Saint-André-Avellin. Both offer tempting menus and a romantic atmosphere where you can take the time to gaze longingly into each other's eyes...
On Sundays, I recommend a visit to the Manoir Papineau National Historic Site. You'll see the rural setting in which Louis-Joseph Papineau lived. You can learn more about this politician from Parks Canada's excellent guides.
Before heading home, you can take the time to visit Montebello's various boutiques. After all, you'll want a souvenir of the quality time you've had together.
Don't forget to stop off at the Centre d'action culturelle de la MRC de Papineau, where there's always an exhibition on display, as well as the boutique La Fouinerie, featuring original works by local artists. One thing's for sure after visiting Montebello's Rue Notre-Dame, you won't come back empty-handed, and you'll leave with a full heart!
