Landscapes and valley
Saint-Sixte boasts extraordinary landscapes, but this village suffered a severe blow in July 2015 when its chapel went up in smoke. However, the 469 residents were not about to give up. A new chapel has been rebuilt, so young and old alike can gather at this new location before going to have fun in the park, at the municipal ball field, or simply strolling through the streets to admire the beautiful views.
The company Gatineau Sled Dogs chose this location precisely for its wide open spaces. Visitors can enjoy dog sled rides or discover the various disciplines of canicross, bikejoring, scooter, kart, sled, and skijoring in an enchanting setting.
Another must-see in Saint-Sixte is the SAJO. In the heart of the forest, you can rent a cottage and enjoy various activities such as hiking, sliding, canoeing, and cycling. There are even two water slides and a swimming pool.
Saint-Sixte lies at the bottom of a small valley, that of the Saint-Sixte River, a tributary of the Petite-Nation River. It is a small agricultural valley surrounded by rocky and rugged hills, including the Montagnes Noires to the north. The village landscape, with the river nearby and rocky outcrops, offers a peaceful setting that is definitely worth visiting during your stay.
