Route 148, which runs along the Ottawa River, connects several major tourist attractions: the Chemins d’eau, the Route Verte, and the Cycl-O-Route. This route, selected by Tourisme Outaouais for its natural beauty, is popular with cyclists and motorcyclists for its gentle gradient and spectacular riverside scenery.
Your adventure begins in Lochaber-West, just past Gatineau. To your right, the water and fields will capture your attention, but don’t forget to look to your left to admire the impressive local farms.
As you pass through Thurso, the birthplace of Guy Lafleur—nicknamed the “Blond Demon”—take a moment to snap a photo in front of the imposing eight-foot bronze statue standing in front of City Hall. This iconic spot has become a must-visit for souvenir photos. Then extend the fun with a culinary break at Café Bistro Léo.
As you continue on your way, you will pass through the Parc national de Plaisance, a true birdwatching gem in Quebec. In Plaisance, the park’s iconic stone entrance invites you to explore this exceptional natural area. Don’t miss the Centre d’art populaire, where you can admire works by talented artists.
Route 148 then takes you to Papineauville, where the high school opens onto the Sentiers des Pères Montfortains, which are open to the public. Right in the heart of the village, Floranik Farm—a family-run, eco-friendly flower farm—is a must-see stop to brighten up your day. Papineauville also offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and a public art trail titled “Imagine, Sow, Harvest.”
Your next stop is Montebello, a charming village where you’ll find local shops and restaurants offering tempting treats such as cheese, chocolate, pastries, and craft beer. Don’t miss Château Montebello, a majestic hotel renowned for its luxury and exceptional service.
Finally, wrap up your journey in Fassett, the last town along Route 148 in Petite Nation. This small village is known for its famous snack bar, Le Casseau—the perfect spot to satisfy a small hunger.
