Le Salon des Inconnus is a tourist accommodation facility and an Artists’ Salon (a research center for performing and emerging arts) that offers lodging, activities, and facilities to both tourists and artists-in-residence.
“I want to get to know the unknowns of this world.”
Located in the Favier House, a historic gem in the village of Namur in the Outaouais region, the Salon des Inconnus draws its inspiration from two marginal salons that left their mark on art history: the Salon des Refusés, a response to the establishment represented by the Paris Salon, and Gertrude Stein’s Salon Fleurus, a master patron and discoverer of talents such as Picasso, Cézanne, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and other unknowns of the Roaring Twenties.
The Salon des Inconnus is dedicated to discovering and nurturing new, unknown, self-taught, or marginalized artists who do not necessarily have access to the resources of the conventional art world.
Reduce artistic waste caused by gatekeeping and the arbitrary categorization of art.
Promote artistic collaboration, share discoveries, allow ourselves to explore new ways of creating, and build a collection of works and memories from the new Roaring Twenties.
