Singer Trail
A cultural hike the trail of trains, timber, and history
On Dufferin Street in Thurso, the Singer Trail invites you to walk along the former route of theThurso Nation Valley Railway(TNVR), a subsidiary of the Singer Company. Built along the former railway line, this trail offers a simple yet captivating immersion into the region’s industrial heritage through a series of interpretive panels installed to mark the 100th anniversary of Singer’s establishment in Thurso, 1925 to 2025.
As you stroll along, you’ll discover how Singer shaped the local landscape—from large-scale logging operations and the construction of the sawmill in 1925 to the developments that transformed the municipality throughout the 20th century. It’s the perfect spot to take a moment to read, look at the archival photos, and imagine the comings and goings of the locomotives that transported the timber.
A little further along the trail, it’s time for art, with the eight works from the “De bois, de fer et d’eau” site-specific art symposium, created in 2021. We invite you to take a stroll through Petite Nation, where memory and creativity come together.
