Singer Trail
A cultural hike the footsteps of trains, wood, and history
On Dufferin Street in Thurso, the Singer Trail invites you to walk where theThurso Nation Valley Railway(TNVR), a subsidiary of the Singer Company, once ran. Built on the former railway line, this trail offers a simple and captivating immersion into the region's industrial heritage through a series of interpretive panels installed to mark the 100th anniversary of Singer's establishment in Thurso, 1925 to 2025.
As you stroll along, you will discover how Singer shaped the local landscape, from large-scale forestry operations to the construction of the sawmill in 1925, right up to the developments that transformed the municipality during the 20th century. It's the perfect place to stop and take the time to read, look at the archive photos, and imagine the comings and goings of the locomotives that transported the wood.
A little further along the trail, it's time for art, with eight works from the " De bois, de fer et d'eau " ( Of Wood, Iron, and Water ) in situ art symposium, created in 2021. We invite you to take a stroll through Petite Nation, between memory and creation.
