Laurence Bietlot, alias Lola
Painting the Imaginary, Between Transparency and Poetry
Painter Laurence Bietlot, known as Lola, explores a sensitive and dreamlike universe where water, color, and material engage in a free dialogue. Her artistic practice combines liquid acrylic, watercolor, and ink, mediums she favors for the transparency of their pigments and their luminous intensity.
Working primarily on watercolor paper, she favors the gelatin monotype technique. This process allows her to play with shapes, textures, and layers, while giving each artwork a unique visual signature. The resulting texture, recognizable and impossible to reproduce identically, makes every creation a singular piece.
Without seeking to convey a specific message or a defined reality, her works invite reverie and personal interpretation. Lola sometimes suggests stylized, almost narrative forms, like those found in a fable. Birds, horses, the mother–child bond, love, these are among the themes she approaches with softness and freedom. At other times, she leans toward abstraction, highlighting transparent colors layered with subtlety.
Collages of tinted Japanese paper, touches of gold leaf, and delicate details, each addition enriches the artwork and opens the door to a wondrous world where the imagination can fully unfold.
