An immersion in the heart of a living forest
The Domaine du Grand Calme is tucked away in the forest to leave as little trace as possible. Bordered by the Petite-Nation River, the site features five camping areas, a site equipped with a prospectors tent, and two rustic-style cabins. An outdoor shared space also provides water, showers and toilets, as well as an open-air kitchen.
The social and ecological mission of Grand Calme invites visitors to experience the forest in its wildest state, observe permaculture in action and nourish the spirit through a vibrant program of cultural, artistic and outdoor activities led by the engaged community that surrounds the site.
Visitors can also get involved as volunteers, lending a hand in the gardens and contributing to the long-term care of the permaculture forest growing on the property. It already includes several species of fruit and nut trees, along with productive shrubs and perennial plants.
Activities take place weekly during the summer season. They are posted on a large calendar at the entrance of the site, shared upon campers arrival and announced on the domain’s social media. These gatherings aim to reconnect people with the land in the enchanting setting of Grand Calme.
Finally, the site is in the process of being protected through a fiduciary initiative that will grant it the status of FUSA (Social Agrofood Land Trust). This approach will help preserve the land for future generations while promoting broad and accessible use of the space. Among the partners actively involved with the site are the collective Les Primitifs, the organization Créations Lunaires, and the LABiorégion de la Petite-Nation Bioregional Education Laboratory.
