Start your journey at Manoir Chamberland in Montebello. The vintage rectory has been transformed into a luxury inn. You’ll fall under the spell the instant you arrive. After a long and restful night, a generous breakfast awaits you directly on the premises.
But first things first. Before settling in at the Manoir, I strongly recommend that you visit Chocomotive to stock up on scrumptious snacks for the evening. You simply can’t beat chocolate treats made right before your eyes. This unique economuseum, in Outaouais and located in Montebello’s vintage railroad station also offers several local specialties. The warmth of the log architecture is sure to kindle your emotions. Among the wares offered is a selection of beers from Brasseurs de Montebello. You’ll be surprised by the wide selection offered by this local microbrewery.
A stop at Fromagerie Montebello is also a must. Here, you’ll find award-winning cheeses, frequently rewarded over the years. Personally, the Rebelllion 1837 is a favourite. Challenge yourself to discover your own!
While you’re there, why not stock up on victuals for a picnic to be savoured at lunch the following day, beside the Plaisance Falls where you can take the time to admire the river tumbling 63 m to the bottom.
In the evening, may I suggest one of two options: a romantic dinner at Le Napoléon in Montebello or at the Vieux Chaudon in Saint-André-Avellin. These two restaurants offer tempting menus in a romantic setting. You can take the time to gaze deeply into each other’s eyes…
On Sunday, I suggest you visit the Manoir-Papineau National Historic Site. You’ll discover the bucolic setting where lived Louis-Joseph Papineau. You can learn more about this political figurehead, from the excellent bilingual guides from Parks Canada.
Before setting out on your return trip, enjoy a visit to the different boutiques in Montebello. After all, you’ll want to bring back a souvenir of the quality time you’ve had the privilege to enjoy together.
Don’t forget to stop at the Centre d’action culturelle de la MRC de Papineau where you’ll always find an exhibition as well as La Fouinerie, a boutique showcasing original works by local artists. After visiting Notre-Dame Street in Montebello, you’ll be sure to come back with your hands full and your heart content!
