You won’t want for opportunities to see your favourite little ones laugh out loud or flash a sparkle in their eyes. Just a weekend is clearly not enough and here’s why.
The magic starts at Parc Oméga in Montebello where you can feed carrots to the ever-hungry elk. In addition to these huge deer, you’ll have the chance to observe wolves, Arctic Fox, buffalo and more. Each experience at Parc Oméga is unique, believe me.
After a well-rounded day, a hearty meal is welcome. Why not try the Zouk in Montebello. The kids will be delighted with the menu and the adults will love the choice of drinks. The log architecture of the building is sure to impress you.
Spend the night at Camping Saint-André-Avellin, either in your own camper or in one of the ready to camp facilities waiting for your family. Many activities are offered on the site, among them canoe and kayak rentals. You can take a ride on the Petite Nation River or enjoy the pool, the water park, the playground or the mini-golf. The choice is yours! In any event, you’ll spend the day at the camping and wind up the enjoyment around the campfire with marshmallows from the nearby Brasse-Camarade. This convenience store, specializing in microbrewery beers, will fill everybody’s needs: those of the younger crew with its impressive selection of candy, but also those of the older set who can sample from the large choice of barley wines.
The following day, a visit to Parc national de Plaisance is planned. Kayaks and bicycles are the order of the day as well as a hike on the Zizanie-des-marais trail where you’ll walk directly through the marshlands, thanks to specially designed footbridges. A walkway on stilts has also been built recently.
On your way back, may I suggest you stop at Domaine Mangalica in Plaisance for a guided tour. You’ll meet with Phil, the oldest woolly pig in the herd. The children are sure to be impressed by these hairy hogs. Ferme Cabriole in Papineauville is also an interesting suggestion. This ranch combines art and animals. Something to pique your curiosity! Why not set time aside for both visits?
You simply have to include the Centre touristique du Lac-Simon in your itinerary with its 2 km beach, and its giant trampoline and play structures. In fact, it’s possible to rent a cottage directly on the beach. Your children will remember the experience for a long time.
Near the tourist centre, the municipality of Lac-Simon has built a mini-golf. One can enjoy a game for a very reasonable price. Another activity to include in your schedule!
Oh yes! I nearly forgot to tell you about Fairmont le Château Montebello with its Olympic-size indoor pool, mini golf, bicycle paths, etc.
Truly, you need more than one weekend for a family visit to the Petite Nation!
When can we expect you?
