Center d'art populaire du Québec
An immersive journey
One of the highlights of the new season is the expansion of the building, including the addition of three new exhibition areas. "This new venue is a central point dedicated to creation," explains Olivier Favre, one of the founders. CAPQ offers a unique collection, spectacular exhibitions, a designer boutique, a luminokinetic experience and a rendezvous for sculptors.
Florent Veilleux in the spotlight
Among the flagship exhibitions, the works of internationally renowned artist Florent Veilleux will take center stage. His pataphysical universe will be accessible to all through an immersive luminokinetic experience. The exhibition promises unique interaction with Veilleux's works, allowing visitors to plunge into a world of light and movement.
Established and emerging artists
In addition to Veilleux, visitors will be able to admire creations by established artists such as Benoit Desjardins, Léon Ippersiel, Cléophas Lachance, Francine Noël, Georges Racicot and Alain Vachon. The diversity of works on display, from sculptures to textiles, will offer a rich palette of folk art. For example, the "Les belles de nos grands-mères" exhibition will feature unique textile paintings by twelve quilters, including one in 3D.
New this season
The 2024 season will also introduce several new exhibitions. A collection of decoys by Pierre Ménard will delight wildlife enthusiasts, while sculptures by Jacynthe Rhéaume, René Dandurand and Michel Therrien will offer fresh perspectives on folk art. The Adrien Levasseur room will be devoted to a fascinating collection of roosters, adding a singular touch to the exhibits as a whole.
An event not to be missed in June
The second major event of the season is scheduled for June 21 to 23 in Plaisance, Outaouais, where some twenty sculptors will gather for three days of festivities. This event will include an expovente, offering a unique opportunity to meet the artists and discover the Centre's boutique, the largest sales outlet for folk art in Quebec. Funds raised from the various admission fees will help renew the exhibitions and support the non-profit organization.
The Centre d'art populaire du Québec promises to transform the summer of 2024 into a memorable season for art lovers. Blending tradition and modernity, the exhibitions will offer an immersive experience that makes you proud to be a Quebecer. Don't miss your chance to discover this new tourist attraction and celebrate folk art in the Outaouais.
