Who doesn't know Guy Lafleur, the famous blond demon number 10 of the Montreal Canadiens?
This field hockey legend is a native of the dynamic town of Thurso. To pay tribute to him, the municipality created an 8-foot bronze statue of him at Place Guy Lafleur on the town hall grounds. It's a popular spot for people wanting to have their photo taken with the immortalized blond demon. Don't hesitate to ask for a souvenir card, available from the town hall office during opening hours. In the evening, lights illuminate the site.
Parc national de Plaisance is undoubtedly another of the town's attractions, as one of its gateways is located in Thurso. From this Société d'établissement de plein air du Québec (SEPAQ) site, it's possible to cycle along the Ottawa River for a total of 21 km. Turtles and marmots are sure to delight visitors, as are the 230 of Quebec's 327 bird species that have been spotted in the Thurso marsh area.
What's more, boat, oar and kayak owners can take advantage of the boat trip to enjoy the Ottawa River and admire the area's wonderful scenery.
Parks, playgrounds, a swimming pool, bicycle and pedestrian paths, a curling club and a golf club also enhance the lives of visitors and Thursolans alike.
To accommodate tourists, the town has installed Wi-Fi in municipal buildings, as well as at Place Guy Lafleur and the Morris column in front of the church.
