Located on Route 317, Saint-Sixte boasts extraordinary scenery.
The village suffered a major blow in July 2015 when the chapel went up in smoke. But the 469 inhabitants had not said their last word. A new chapel has now been rebuilt, offering young and old alike the chance to pay their respects at this new location before enjoying the park, the municipal ball field or simply strolling the streets to admire the beautiful view.
Chiens de traîneau de Gatineau Sled Dogs chose this very spot for its wide-open spaces. In an enchanting setting, visitors can take a dogsled ride or discover the various canicross, bikejoring, scooter, kart, sled and skijoring events.
It's hard to pass through Saint-Sixte without stopping at the Folies Bergères cheese factory. These producers offer several mouth-watering cheeses made from sheep's milk.
Another Saint-Sixte must-see is Camp SAJO. In the heart of the forest, you can rent a cabin and enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking, sliding, canoeing and cycling. There are even two water slides and a swimming pool.
Saint-Sixte is nestled in a small valley, that of the Rivière Saint-Sixte, a tributary of the Rivière de la Petite-Nation. It's a small agricultural valley surrounded by rugged, rocky hills, including the Montagnes Noires to the north. The village landscape, with its nearby river and rocky outcrops, offers a peaceful setting that's a must-see during your stay.
