April 4, 2022 - The municipality of Duhamel announces the honorary naming of its newly renovated library, which will take place on May 7, 2022, at 2 p.m., during an event open to the public.
This event, which is the pride of the Duhamell community, will be held at the Église de Notre-Dame-du Mont-Carmel, located at 1900 rue Principale.
Quebec author and playwright Michel Tremblay will be the guest of honor. The library will be named after one of his works. The name is a tribute to the writer, who drew inspiration from his youthful visits to family members living in Duhamel, whose memories form the backdrop to many of his stories. In so doing, Michel Tremblay immortalized the social and heritage fabric of a bygone era in the region, and brought it to the attention of a multitude of readers at home and abroad. Although the concrete remains that served as the backdrop for his inspiration have now disappeared, the municipality's magnificent landscapes are still very much alive and dear to us all.
Various activities will take place during the inauguration, punctuated by music and reminiscences of the heritage of yesteryear. Artistic performances in the church will also be broadcast on a giant screen outside. The event is designed to be convivial and free of charge. Following a talk, Michel Tremblay will answer questions from the audience. Afterwards, spectators will be invited to the library opposite the church for the unveiling of the library's billboard, an original creation by Christian Quesnel, an Avellois cartoonist and winner of the Raja 2022 Eco-Fauve prize at the prestigious Angoulême Comics Festival in France.
A not-to-be-missed cultural and heritage event to which you're invited in large numbers.
