Montebello, November 13, 2023 - Parc Omega has been awarded the Thomas R. Baines Award (Great Institution) by the Association of Accredited Zoos and Aquariums of Canada (AACZ), at its annual gala held on November 7 in Montebello, Quebec.
The new "Ride Among the Arctic Wolves" trail, offering visitors an immersive experience unique in North America, earned the animal park an award in the "Excellence in Habitat Design and Development" category.
The Thomas R. Baines Award recognizes excellence in habitat design and development by an accredited CAZA member institution. To succeed in this category, the nominee must apply creative and unique approaches to animal care and well-being to enhance public appreciation of the species and convey meaningful educational messages.
Since July 14, Parc Oméga has been offering visitors an immersive experience unique in Canada, thanks to a new route entitled "Drive among the Arctic wolves". This exclusive new route allows visitors to drive through an area specially dedicated to the majestic Arctic wolves, an unparalleled immersive experience that is a first in the country.
What sets Parc Oméga apart from traditional zoos is its vast, unspoilt natural spaces covering more than
2200 acres. With the opening of this new course, the area dedicated to Arctic wolves has more than doubled to 11 acres. This expansion offers visitors a unique experience where wolves live in an enriched and complete living space designed with respect for nature and for this species. The space offers Arctic wolves different levels of terrain, a variety of vegetation including a forested section offering shade and rest, rocky mountain areas, plus a body of water to cool off in hot weather. This habitat was created with the Arctic wolves in mind, putting their well-being at the forefront.
"This close and safe interaction adds inestimable value to our 12 km circuit, creating a memorable experience for our visitors.
Since our main mission is to educate through wonder by offering memorable experiences, this new attraction fits in perfectly with that mission, and we're very proud to receive this distinction," says Sonia Lamoureux, spokesperson for Parc Oméga.
