Montebello, Thursday, June 29, 2023 - Popular for its unique wildlife experiences, Parc Oméga is enhancing its visitors' experience with a host of new features, achieved following investments of some $13 million. Starting this summer, visitors to the wildlife park will be able to discover two new animal species, as well as a new trail allowing them to drive among Arctic wolves in their natural habitat - a first in Canada.
"The investments made this summer allow Parc Oméga to reiterate its commitment to offering visitors new experiences that are both memorable and unique, at the heart of the flora and fauna," explains Billie-Prisca Giroux, Parc Oméga's Communications Manager.
A new course in vocar
Starting on July 14, Parc Oméga will be offering a new drive-through concept, where the Arctic wolves will evolve in an area specifically dedicated to them, while visitors will be able to circulate freely in their vehicles. "The animal park is the first to offer this concept in Canada. This new feature gives the canines more living space and allows visitors to enjoy a completely unique experience, with a breathtaking view of the animal park's mountain scenery," adds Giroux. Accustomed to rubbing shoulders with motorists, the Arctic wolf is both calm and social. A guard and security measures will be put in place to ensure a peaceful experience.
L'arrivée Przewalski's horses and castors
Two new species recently made their debut at Parc Oméga: three Przewalski's horses from Mongolia, and two beavers. "The addition of these two species enhances Parc Oméga's commitment to creating a safe, natural environment for wild animals," adds Giroux. The animal park is home to Przewalski's horses, a species that came close to extinction in the late 1960s and whose wild population remains low to this day. These new horses will live alongside the bison in the park's meadows. "Dedicated to the protection of flora and fauna, the animal park is pleased to commit to a breeding and conservation program, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) Species Survival Plan, to protect this species," explains Giroux.
Des heception in communion with the nature
Over the past year, 13 new units have been added to the immersive Parc Omega experience. Modern and luxurious, these units are available annually and can accommodate families and friends of up to four people. Blending in perfectly with the rocky, mountainous Outaouais scenery, these dwellings offer the opportunity to observe young gray wolves and cinnamon bears living together from an early age, an experience unique in North America.
Dxclusive experiences for all goosts
Several other family activities are offered throughout the summer at Parc Oméga, including Oméga by Night, where visitors can enjoy a magical sound and light experience on a 1.5 km walking trail in the heart of nature. This event will be available exclusively on some Saturday evenings. Other experiences, such as guided tours when the animals wake up before the park opens, or a cocktail with the wolves at the observatory, will also be available this summer. A new foundation
To support projects related to the protection and conservation of endangered species, the promotion of education and the arts, and the enhancement of mental health, Parc Omega recently founded its very first foundation, the Makwa Foundation. A charity gala to raise funds for its mission is scheduled for autumn 2023.
