Sophie Roy at the Centre d’exposition Napoléon-Bourassa
This exhibition brings together two distinct but complementary photographic series, in which digital photomontage becomes a creative and reflexive playground. Sophie Roy juxtaposes, fuses and transforms archival and contemporary photographs to create images that blur the boundaries between past and present, real and imagined.
In L'âme de la ville, the artist draws inspiration from thinkers such as Simone Weil and Heraclitus to explore the city as a space that is both moving and symbolically anchored. Neighborhoods, heritage and places of memory become witnesses to a constant dialogue between rootedness and mobility, permanence and transformation.
With Nouveaux regards, she proposes new landscapes where nature and imagination meet. Through superimpositions and transparency effects, Sophie Roy addresses our contemporary relationship with the environment, evoking both extractive pressures and hopes for ecological renewal.
A native of the Greater Montreal area, Sophie Roy has presented her work in a number of exhibitions across Quebec. Her approach, both sensitive and critical, encourages reflection on the links between territory, memory and the transformation of the world.
